Bajaj Auto Akurdi plant was established in 1962. The area around was backward without any basic amenities like proper road, communication etc. There was tremendous change in social, economic and demographic aspects as people came from every corner of the country for employment. Local community was looking for opportunities for social interaction and facilities for skill development. Shri. Rahul Bajaj realised the need to initiate programmes for socio-cultural association of various communities in Akurdi, Pimpri & Chinchwad area. He also deeply felt about the families of Bajaj employees, i.e. women and children and their socio-cultural requirements. Thus Samaj Seva Kendra (SSK) was conceptualized. The SSK, sponsored by Bajaj Auto Ltd, was then one of the few CSR initiatives in the industrial areas of Pune. Shri. Rahul Bajaj always believed that business should contribute for the welfare of the community around.

Following Jamnalaljiā€™s legacy of doing social, community work and rural development in the vicinity of factories / offices, Shri.Ramkrishna Bajaj and Shri Rahul Bajaj initiated Jankidevi Bajaj Gram Vikas Sanstha in 1987 under the Chairmanship of Shri.Jayant H.Shah, the then Executive Director, Bajaj Auto Ltd. and the journey began.
